Former Singaporean minister and financial services expert Hwee Hua Lim will provide guidance and support for Westpac’s strategy in Asia as the first non-executive member on the Asia Advisory Board.

Ms Lim served as second minister for finance and second minister for transport in 2009, and was the first female minister of Singapore’s cabinet.

Prior to her political career, she held a variety of roles in the financial services industry at Swiss Bank Corporation, Jardine Fleming and Temasek Holdings.

Westpac chief executive and Asia Advisory Board chairman Rob Whitfield said the purpose of the advisory board is to “provide insights and leadership as we continue to strengthen our customer-led strategy in the region”.

“Ms Lim’s broad experience and deep regional knowledge will be invaluable to Westpac as we continue to shape our understanding and build key regional relationships,” said Mr Whitfield.

Anju Abrol will be based in Singapore, where she will perform the role of chief risk officer.

Reporting to Westpac chief executive Andrew Carriline and Westpac general manager Asia Balaji Swaminathan, Ms Abrol will be responsible for risk management across Asia and will support Westpac’s Asia strategy as it continues to improve its product and service capabilities in the region.

Ms Abrol was previously at Bank of America Merrill Lynch as a risk executive in Asia.

Prior to this she worked at Peregrine Fixed Incomes, Deutsche Bank and ANZ Bank.

Mr Carriline said Ms Abrol held significant experience in building regional risk management strategies that support sustainable growth.

“As a versatile risk professional, with significant experience globally, Anju makes a strong addition to the leadership team and will play a pivotal role in implementing Westpac’s Asia strategy,” he said.
