APRA has appointed a new executive director for superannuation following the departure of Carmen Beverley-Smith.
It was announced earlier this month that Beverley-Smith would be departing after three years to join a regulated entity.
In light of this, APRA has now appointed Jane Magill as executive director of life insurance, private health insurance and superannuation.
She is currently executive director of general insurance and banking and has worked at APRA since March 2023 when she joined as chief of staff and enterprise services.
She has over 30 years’ experience across banking, funds management and commodity trading with broad risk management and commercial leadership experience in Australia, Europe and the Americas.
Prior to joining APRA, Jane was global lead – business operational risk, commodities and global markets group at Macquarie.
Magill’s appointment will be effective from 16 February and Peter Kohlhagen will remain in the role in an interim capacity until this date.
To fill the role currently held by Magill, Peter Diamond will take this on in an interim basis while a permanent replacement is sourced. He is currently the general manager for banking.
Beverley-Smith was the second APRA departure in recent months as deputy chair Margaret Cole announced she would be leaving at the end of her term in June 2026. During her time, Cole was fundamental in overseeing and implementing the Your Future, Your Super reforms.
