RI Advice creates new executive role

RI Advice Group recruits a former Genesys executive as it restructures for future growth.

RI Advice Group has appointed Guyon Cates to the newly created position of head of advice, as it undergoes a minor restructure in preparation for industry reforms and further growth within the group.

“While reporting lines have somewhat changed dealer group functions have not, but will now be more integrated to drive greater revenue growth within RI Advice Group and to make sure our advisers are in the best position possible ahead of industry changes,” RI Advice Group chief executive Paul Campbell told InvestorDaily.

Formerly the head of advice at Genesys Wealth Advisers, Cates joined RI Advice Group in a consulting role in June this year.

In his new role, Cates will oversee the investment research, professional standards and compliance, advice research and development, technical services and risk insurance divisions.

Following news that RI Advice Group’s research team of four would transition out of the business over the next six months to create a portfolio construction services business, Campbell said he hoped to appoint one of two new researchers by the end of the year.

“We will appoint a national manager of research and a research analyst, but rather than two additional researchers, an advice consultant and an advice support officer,” he said.

“This is because there are a number of less complex inquiries that come through to the research team, so these two new roles will be able to assist advisers and give our key researchers more time to overlay research and deal with the more complex inquiries.”

Campbell said RI Advice Group had also appointed Madeline Said to the newly created position of technical manager.

Reporting to advice research and development manger, Miles Mudie, Said will support advisers to bring quality advice and legislative strategy together, Campbell said.

Working in financial services since 1995, Said previously worked with Genesys, as well as AMP and AM Corporation.
