Director Anne Ward will be stepping down from the board after 15 years, 14 of which she spent as chairman.

Her fellow board director Paul Costello passed away in November last year.

Stepping into Ms Ward’s and Mr Costello’s places as company-appointed directors are Australian Institute of Company Directors chair John Atkin and actuary and investment specialist Lorraine Berends in March and May respectively.

“With her extensive experience in the financial services sector and as a professional company director, Anne has guided Qantas Super through market cycles and substantial regulatory change to leave the fund in great shape for the future,” the firm said.

The Qantas Super Board consists of five member-elected directors and five company-appointed directors.

Mr Atkin has a corporate governance background spanning 37 years, having previously been the CEO of The Trust Company and Blake Dawson.

He has also been a director on the boards of ASX listed companies, APRA regulated companies and not for profit entities.

Ms Berends has 35 years of experience in financial services, having held executive roles at National Mutual and Marvin & Palmer Associates.

She has also served on the boards of the Association of Superannuation Funds of Australia and the Investment Management Consultants Association, now known as the CIMA Society of Australia.

Ms Berends is also currently a director on a range of boards including BT Financial Group’s superannuation board and is a member of QSuper’s Investment Committee.

“On behalf of our members, the board and the team at Qantas Super, I’d like to thank Anne for her unwavering commitment over the years and extend a warm welcome to our new directors designate,” Michael Clancy, CEO of Qantas Super said.

“We’re thrilled to have candidates of such high calibre and look forward to John and Lorraine helping our members feel confident in their financial future so they can enjoy retirement.”
