He was previously head of quantitative research for multi-asset strategies at NN Investment Partners and a quantitative investment strategist with ING Investment Management.

NTAM said that Mr Baltussen will lead the global investment manager’s international quantitative strategies investments to support growth, including quantitative research and innovation, thought leadership and investment strategy.

Based in Amsterdam, he will report to Michael Hunstad, deputy chief investment officer and chief investment officer of global equities at NTAM.

“Guido’s wealth of experience in factor investing in equity, fixed income, and multi-asset strategies is a tremendous addition to NTAM’s global quantitative strategies business,” said Mr Hunstad.

“With decades of demonstrated ability to deliver value to clients through our quantitative investment strategies, NTAM is reinvesting in this important area of the business and growing our international client capabilities.”

According to NTAM, Mr Baltussen will oversee its expanding international quantitative teams across Europe, Middle East, Africa (EMEA) and Asia Pacific (APAC). The appointment aims to strengthen the firm’s investment capabilities and solutions for global clients.

“Under the Your Future, Your Super guidelines, Australian superannuation funds will put their active risk budgets into focus and increasingly look to quantitative strategies for dependable, scalable, lower risk sources of alpha,” Mr Hunstad added.

“We’re pleased to see Guido bring his extensive background in systematic strategies which will enable us to expand our solutions and product set in the region.”

Mr Baltussen is a professor of finance at Erasmus University in Rotterdam and holds a PhD in finance from Erasmus University Rotterdam and an MPhil in economics from the Tinbergen Institute.

Described as an accomplished researcher, Baltussen has published in journals such as the American Economic Review, the Journal of Financial Economics and the Financial Analysts Journal.

NTAM had US$1.09 trillion in assets under management as at 30 September, including US$31.7 billion in quantitative strategies.
