Matthew Peron has joined the asset manager, from his most recent role as chief investment officer of City National Rochdale.

He will oversee the firm’s centralised equity research function and be named as portfolio manager across all of its research strategies.

Mr Peron has replaced Carmel Wellso, who will be off a six-month sabbatical from 1 July. After her break, she will determine in what capacity she would like to return to the company.

She will be working with Mr Peron in a transition period.

He will report to George Maris, co-head of equities for Janus Henderson.

Mr Peron is said to have 29 years of financial experience, including eight years of working in fixed income and 21 years of working in senior roles in equities, as a portfolio manager, group lead, director of research and running various quantitative strategies and teams.

Previously, he has served as executive vice-president and managing director of global equity at Northern Trust in Chicago and was a member of the asset allocation committee.

Prior to that, he was director of equity research and was lead manager on a number of quantitative strategies at Northern Trust.

Janus Henderson stated there will be no change to any of its research strategies’ investment objectives or philosophies.

Mr Maris commented Mr Peron’s investment and leadership experience will complement the firm’s investment philosophy and help ensure a seamless transition.

On Ms Wellso, he said: “Carmel has made significant contributions to the firm over the past 12 years, including, but not limited to, enhancing the capabilities of the centralised equity research team and more broadly as a senior leader within Janus Henderson.”

Mr Peron will commence at Janus Henderson on 13 April.
