In addition to his role at APRA, Ian Laughlin has had more than 40 years’ experience in the finance and insurance industry. He has held a range of senior executive and board positions in Australia, the UK and Hong Kong. Most recently, he was the chair of ANZ-owned OnePath Life Insurance and OnePath General Insurance; chair of ANZ Lenders Mortgage Insurance; and chair of the advisory board at Blackhall and Pearl. Mr Laughlin currently chairs the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) Forum for APRA-regulated entities.

“PFS Consulting is thrilled to have a professional of Ian Laughlin’s calibre and standing join us. Ian brings a unique perspective to PFS Consulting. In addition to his extensive executive and board experience, he has also been a very senior regulator,” PFS Consulting managing director John Newman said.

“Ian will provide PFS Consulting clients with an unmatched level of expertise and insights, helping them deal with the requirements of a post-royal commission world and measurably improve their own performance.”

Ian Laughlin was awarded Actuary of the Year 2018 by the Actuaries Institute, the peak professional body for actuaries in Australia, and was also awarded Distinguished Fellow by the International Association of insurance Supervisors in 2016.

“My main areas of interest are risk management and governance. I have been fortunate to have deep experience in these areas from three perspectives – as a senior executive, as a regulator and as a non-executive director,” Mr Laughlin said.

“I look forward to bringing this experience to help PFS Consulting clients successfully navigate their way through the many challenges they face in the current environment.”
