HESTA has announced the appointment of Sue Dahn, a partner at Pitcher Partners, to its board as director and investment committee chair, effective from 1 July 2023.

In joining HESTA’s board, Ms Dahn brings more than three decades of experience in financial and investment advice, and in addition, extensive board and investment committee experience.

Namely, she currently serves in three other roles as investment committee chair — for Breakthrough Victoria, Spirit Super, and Australian Communities Foundation.

Ms Dahn was also previously chair of the investment committee at MTAA Super Fund, AGEST Super, and ESS Super.

HESTA chair Nicola Roxon welcomed Ms Dahn to the board and said her appointment will support the fund’s delivery of long-term investment performance for members underpinned by global leadership in responsible investment.

“Sue brings a wealth of experience to the board as an investment adviser, and her previous board experience will continue to enhance our ability to make a real difference in the lives of our members,” Ms Roxon said.

“HESTA has a record of delivering outstanding investment performance for members and Sue’s appointment will support the delivery of investment excellence with impact for members, while overseeing the management of a growing and significant pool of assets.”

Throughout her time with Pitcher Partners, Ms Dahn has founded its investment advisory practice, which now consists of a 65-strong team advising on over $6.5 billion in funds.

She has also since held senior financial positions in the Victorian government departments of premier and cabinet, and treasury and finance.

Speaking on her appointment, Ms Dahn expressed her excitement in joining HESTA and contributing to improving the financial future of the fund’s members, who predominantly work in health and community services.

“I am delighted to be joining HESTA and help the fund to continue to deliver great retirement outcomes for our 1 million-plus members,” she said.

“Investment committees and good governance have long been two key passions of mine.

“I am looking forward to joining the HESTA board later this year and sharing my experience and expertise in investment across all asset classes, both listed and non-listed, and in contributing to HESTA’s great reputation for responsible investing,” Ms Dahn concluded.

Notably, Ms Dahn was named The Australian and Barron’s top financial adviser in Australia in 2019, the first woman to achieve such an accolade, and in 2021 was named AIST Super Trustee of the Year.
