Sargon Capital announced in a statement that Mr Rankin, along with Andy Wang, David Chen and Tony Owen, have joined the board as a non-executive chairman and non-executive directors, respectively.

Sargon Capital provides financial technology and infrastructure services to the pension and investments industry and operates in Australia through its trading brand Trustee Partners, which provides superannuation trustee services.

Trustee Partners is the owner of Tidswell Financial Services, which was fined by ASIC alongside Millennial-focused superannuation fund Spaceship for misleading marketing material.

Mr Rankin jointly founded investment firm Pacific Point Partners with billionaire businessman James Packer until the pair fell out in July last year.

Mr Rankin spent six years at Deutsche Bank between 2009 and 2015, where he held the role of chief executive for Asia Pacific and later global co-head of corporate banking and securities.

Before his time at the German investment bank, he had spent more than 15 years at UBS where he headed up investment banking for Asia Pacific.

Commenting on the appointment of Mr Rankin, Sargon founder Phillip Kingston said: “Rob is a global business leader and investor, whose experience and network will help Sargon achieve its ambitious mission to improve pension and investment outcomes in the world’s 22 defined contribution pension systems, including superannuation in Australia.”

Mr Rankin’s presence on Sargon Capital’s board of directors will be joined by former HSBC investment banker Andy Wang, who is general manager of investment banking at Taiping Financial Holdings, which has a “strategic partnership” with Sargon Capital.

Investor and venture partner of private equity fund Tripod Capital David Chen will also take up a non-executive director position on the board, along with US-based venture capital investor Tony Owen.
