The Emergency Services and State Super (ESSSuper) fund has appointed Michael Dundon as its new chief executive.

Dundon replaces Don Kofoed, who resigned on 30 April 2009 due to ill health after a 12-month stint in the job.

Dundon, who previously held the position of chief financial officer, has been acting chief executive since February 2009 while the board conducted an executive search through Kathleen Townsend & Associates for a new head.

“With Michael’s appointment, and with a strong management team already in place, ESSSuper is well positioned to achieve our strategic objective of providing members with the best retirement outcomes possible,” ESSSuper board president Frank King said.

Prior to working at ESSSuper, Dundon was a senior finance executive with extensive experience in banking, funds management, life insurance, consumer lending and utilities organisations within Australia and South East Asia.

“Michael’s extensive management experience in a range of industries will be invaluable to ESSSuper’s aim to deliver strong and competitive investment returns to our members,” King said.

“On behalf of the board I’d like to congratulate Michael on his appointment. We look forward to working with him to deliver safe and strong investments to our members,” he said.

ESSSuper is one of the ten largest super funds in Australia.

Its members include police, fire and ambulance officers, public servants, some Victorian education staff and politicians.
