The firm announced that David Ephraums will join as a partner, focusing on superannuation, in a move Clayton Utz has described as a “strategic investment that will enhance its offering to financial services industry clients”.

Mr Ephraums has 25 years’ experience in the financial services sector as a former in-house counsel at BT Financial Group, AMP and UBS Global Asset Management.

He specialises in governance and compliance issues in the financial services, funds management, superannuation, life insurance, portfolio services, financial advice and retail banking areas.

Clayton Utz banking and financial services department head Steve O’Reilly welcomed the new recruit, pointing to his experience and ability to add value in a changing regulatory environment.

“With continued consolidation and regulatory change in the superannuation and funds management sectors, our clients with core services in these areas need legal advisers who understand the industry and regulatory environment within which they operate, as well as commercial drivers of their businesses,” Mr O’Reilly said.

“David offers our clients a unique combination of deep legal and industry knowledge, relationships and experience, with the ability to help them achieve successful commercial outcomes while at the same time meeting their regulatory obligations.”

Mr Ephraums will join a team that includes former ASFA board member Jane Paskin, director Sonia Lopes and senior associates Phillip Turner and Sophie Dalton.

Clayton Utz’s banking and financial services team acts for a range of clients in the financial services space, including ANZ Wealth, AMP, ACT Super, the Australian Catholic Superannuation and Retirement Fund, BT, ING and Zurich.
