Chris Plater has taken the job after 17 years with Challenger, having served in a variety of leadership roles. He has been CEO of the life business for four years.
In the new role, Mr Plater will continue to be a member of Challenger’s leadership team and support the life business, including remaining chair of Challenger Life’s investment committee.
Meanwhile, Anton Kapel, Challenger appointed actuary ad chief financial officer of the life business, will take on the role of acting CEO while a search for Mr Plater’s replacement is undertaken.
Challenger managing director and CEO Richard Howes commented Mr Plater’s understanding of the business’ operational needs “positions him well to lead” the operations and tech teams.
The changes are effective from Monday.
