The Association of Superannuation Funds of Australia (ASFA) has welcomed Team Super’s group CEO, Vasyl Nair, as the newest member of its board.

Vasyl has previously served as deputy CEO, chief risk officer and chief strategy officer at Team Super, formerly Mine Super.

Having first announced their merger in December 2022, industry funds Mine Super and TWUSUPER are now in the process of finalising the integration, which will see the combined entity operate under the Team Super name.

While the deal was set to be completed by mid-2024, the funds announced they now expect to formally come together early this year. However, to support the merger, Mine Super rebranded to Team Super earlier this week.

Nair was named as the head of the new combined fund, which will have more than 150,000 members and $20 billion in funds under management.

“I’m proud to take up this position on such a capable board and hope that I can contribute a small and medium fund perspective during a time of significant change for the superannuation industry,” he said on his appointment.

Moreover, ASFA highlighted Nair’s strong background in law, corporate finance and strategy, having held senior roles at some of the country’s largest financial services institutions, including CBA and Westpac.

“We are delighted to welcome Vasyl to the ASFA board, particularly at a time of great opportunity and growth for our superannuation system,” ASFA chair Gary Dransfield said.

CEO Mary Delahunty said: “Vasyl is a keen advocate for the ongoing development of the superannuation sector.

“He brings great energy and a wealth of experience and we are looking forward to working with him.”

Recently, ASFA also announced the appointment of Vanguard Super’s Rachel Reynolds, head of operations, as a new director to its board.

Reynolds brings 25 years of experience working in senior operational roles across the financial services sector, including superannuation, financial advice and insurance.

Prior to joining Vanguard, she had a five-year stint as executive manager for operations at CareSuper and, before this, was an operations manager at Guild Group.
