“Belinda Gibson and Shane Tregillis both have long experience in corporate regulation and securities and will ensure the commission has the depth and the background to deal with our increasing responsibilities, including market supervision and consumer credit,” ASIC chairman Tony D’Aloisio said.

Gibson takes on the deputy chair role effective immediately.

Prior to the role, she has been an ASIC commissioner responsible for corporate governance and capital markets since 2007.

Tregillis moves into his new role on 17 May and will be based in Melbourne.

He was previously the deputy managing director of market conduct at the Monetary Authority of Singapore.

He was also a member of ASIC’s national executive between 1995 and 2001.
