Global X ETFs has announced the appointment of Evan Metcalf as CEO of Global X Australia as the firm seeks to accelerate its growth in the local market.

Mr Metcalf has held a variety of international financial services roles over more than 20 years and has been head of product at ETF Securities since 2015.

The Australian ETF provider was acquired by Mirae Asset and Global X in June this year and has since been rebranded to Global X ETFs.

According to Global X ETFs, Mr Metcalf will play a key role in continuing to build on its legacy through quality research, a strong balance sheet and a track record of innovative and investor-driven product design to benefit the firm’s clients.

“We have the utmost confidence that Evan’s previous success and expertise in this market will help to advance our goals here in Australia as we look to create opportunities for our clients and expand our offering, creating an Australian ETF powerhouse,” commented Global X ETFs CEO, Luis Berruga.

As of June this year, the firm formerly known as ETF Securities Australia had $4.7 billion in assets under management (AUM), while Mirae Asset’s ETF AUM was in excess of $85 billion.

Head of the Global Business Unit at Mirae Global Investments, Young Kim, said that the firm was excited to partner with a strong industry veteran in Mr Metcalf.

“Evan’s charismatic leadership will act as a catalyst for our aspirations in the Australian market. The Mirae Asset group looks forward to the accomplishments that Evan and the Global X ETFs team will achieve in the near future,” he said.

Commenting on his appointment, Mr Metcalf said that he was delighted to be stepping into the new role of Australia CEO.

“Global X ETFs’ focus on product design, innovation, and investor-driven market access, as well as its suite of ETF products across key segments of thematic investing, income and commodities backed by in-depth research, is like no other offering in this market,” he said.

“I look forward to partnering with all areas of the Global X global business to drive further growth and bring more products to Australia building on our global heritage and strong investor-centric approach.”
