Joining the bank’s group executive committee are Pedro Rodeia as group executive Australia retail, Christine Palmer as group chief risk officer, and Donald Patra as ANZ’s chief information officer, a former colleague of Matos’ from HSBC.

The announcement comes ahead of the bank’s long-awaited strategy update, which is scheduled for next week.

Commenting on the appointments, Matos said he is pleased to welcome the executives to these “critical roles”.

“The deep experience they each bring will ensure ANZ will deliver better outcomes for our customers, further strengthen our risk management capabilities and continue to build best-in-class technology capabilities for our customers and our people,” Matos said.

“I look forward to welcoming them to Melbourne as each of these three experienced leaders commence the crucial role they will play in driving our future growth and performance.”

Rodeia, who has a background in retail banking across all key products, segments and channels, will join ANZ from McKinsey & Co in mid-November.

He brings more than 30 years of global banking experience as well as 15 years with Australian banks.

During the interim, Bruce Rush will continue as acting group executive Australia retail.

Palmer joins ANZ from Santander UK, where she was chief risk officer since 2020. She previously spent 14 years at the Royal Bank of Scotland/NatWest, holding senior roles in enterprise risk management, credit and non-financial risk.

Kevin Corbally will remain in the role until 1 December, when Palmer is due to commence her new position.

Finally, Patra will take over from Gerard Florian, one of several executives who departed the bank soon after Matos began in May.

With over 30 years of international leadership experience across financial services and technology sectors, Patra most recently served as chief information officer at HSBC for the United Kingdom and Europe.

Patra brings a wealth of experience in transitions, garnered over two decades at HSBC. His tenure included leadership roles as chief information officer for major programs across Asia, the Americas and Europe.

Beyond leading global digital transformation, his career highlights include modernising core banking platforms, enhancing data and AI capabilities, and building operational resilience within strictly regulated markets.

He will begin the role in late November, with Michael Bullock continuing as acting in the role until then.
