Amundi has named Vincent Mortier as its new CIO to succeed Pascal Blanqué, who has moved into the role of chairman at the new Amundi Institute.

Mr Mortier served as group deputy CIO of Amundi since 2015 and is a member of the firm’s global management committee, executive management committee and multiple supervisory boards.

“In his capacity as deputy CIO, Vincent has been notably instrumental in anchoring ESG at the heart of the investment process across the different active investment platforms of Amundi and the establishment of a strong risk management framework,” Amundi said in a statement.

As supervisor of the firm’s activities in Asia ex-Japan, Amundi said Mr Mortier had also played an important role in developing its business in the region.

Prior to Amundi, he held a number of roles at Société Générale and was most recently CFO of the firm’s global banking and investor solutions division.

Meanwhile, Mr Blanqué will supervise the new Amundi Institute which the firm said it had established in response to the critical need of investors to understand economic, financial, geopolitical, societal and environmental dimensions and the evolution of investment practices.

“The creation of the Amundi Institute will enhance the contribution of research to all of Amundi’s asset management activities so that they can continue to create high-performing investment solutions over the long term, adapted to the specific needs of each client and taking into account all the parameters of an increasingly complex environment,” said Mr Mortier.

Monica Defend will head the Amundi Institute after previously serving as global head of research and as a member of the global investment committee and the advisory board at Amundi.

As part of the leadership reshuffle, Matteo Germano has been appointed as Amundi’s new deputy CIO from his previous roles of global head of multi-asset and CIO for Italy.

In addition, John O’Toole has been named head of multi-asset investment solutions and Francesco Sandrini has been named head of multi-asset strategies.
