Kylie O’Connor has become the new head of real estate, set to lead a team managing more than $28 billion of commercial real estate on behalf of institutional and retail investors across equity and debt investment.

Ms O’Connor, who was AMP Capital real estate’s COO and managing director of separate accounts, will replace the previous global head Carmel Hourigan, who is departing the business.

Ms Hourigan was named as one of a number of executives leaving the group after previous sexual harassment claims against freshly appointed AMP Capital chief executive Boe Pahari resurfaced.

Meanwhile, office and logistics managing director Luke Briscoe will take the COO position.

Speaking on the head appointment, Mr Pahari said Ms O’Connor will lead the business into its next phase of growth.

“Kylie is a great leader and her promotion is testament to the strong talent within AMP Capital’s real estate team,” he said.

“Kylie has a deep breadth of both commercial and real estate investment experience and will bring a strong focus on delivering investment outcomes for our clients. I also value her contribution to the wide and diverse views in the leadership group.”

Ms O’Connor joined AMP Capital in 2014 as fund manager for AMP Capital Diversified Property Fund, before taking on the role of COO in 2018.

She has a reported 25 years’ experience in property funds management.

Ms O’Connor said she was pleased to lead the business and join Mr Pahari’s leadership team.

“While COVID-19 has created challenges for the industry, we’re constantly engaging with tenants, customers and investors to find the right outcome, and I’m confident in our ability to deliver for our clients, our people and our shareholders,” Ms O’Connor said.
