The role will commence in January 2023.

CareSuper has announced the appointment of Gary Wong to the newly created role of head of equities, making him responsible for the fund’s Australian and global equity portfolios.

Joining the fund with extensive experience in portfolio management and investment research, Mr Wong had previously spent 15 years at Victorian Funds Management Corporation (VFMC) across a number of positions. Most notably, he was appointed senior portfolio manager in August 2018.

Mr Wong has additionally held roles at ASIC, ABN Amro, and Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu.

Moreover, he has a bachelor of commerce (hons), and a master of applied finance from the University of Melbourne. He is also a CFA charterholder and a chartered accountant.

CareSuper chief investment officer, Suzanne Branton, commented: ‘‘We are delighted to have Gary join us, and his hire marks an important step in the continued growth of our investment team.

“As a highly experienced investment professional, Gary will help strengthen the quality of our investment decision making as the team extends CareSuper’s strong track record into the future.”

Mr Wong’s appointment follows Michael Dundon being named CareSuper’s chief executive in December, after Julie Lander announced earlier in 2022 that she planned to step down after two decades in the role.
