Global investment manager First Sentier Investors has brought a new chief risk officer on board.

FSI appointed former Aegon Asset Management global chief risk and compliance officer Jane Daniel as CRO, effective 1 January 2023.

Based in London, she will join the FSI executive leadership team and report to chief executive Mark Steinberg.

Ms Daniel oversaw portfolio risk management, enterprise risk management and compliance at Aegon, leading a team of 85 across Europe, the US and Asia.

Prior to joining Aegon in 2017, Ms Daniel was EMEA CRO and global head of enterprise risk at Columbia Threadneedle. She has also worked across a variety of business and risk roles at the Royal Bank of Scotland.

Mr Steinberg said, “I am delighted that we could secure someone of Jane’s calibre. She brings with her demonstrable experience of driving and leading significant control functions in highly complex regulated markets and global organisations. I look forward to the value she will add to our business in raising and maintaining the global standard of risk management and compliance within the three lines of defence.”

The new hire follows the recent appointments to FSI’s responsible investment team, including Kate Turner as the new global head.

“Along with our new appointments, our global RI team is now well-positioned to advise on increasingly complex ESG regulations, and work with investment teams on critical issues including climate change, human rights and modern slavery, diversity and biodiversity — all with the aim of driving long-term investment performance and helping address some of society’s significant challenges,” Mr Steinberg said in November.
