Cboe Australia appoints director of market engagement

The stock exchange has hired an experienced financial markets executive.

Cboe Australia has appointed experienced financial markets and exchange executive, Benjamin Phillips, to the role of director, market engagement.

Mr Phillips has over 20 years of experience across equities, derivatives, energy and clearing, and has been working with Cboe Australia in a consulting capacity since May this year.

He was most recently executive director of markets development and clearing at NZX, where he was responsible for cash and derivative markets trading, exchange and energy market clearing operations and clearing house risk management for the New Zealand exchange.

Prior to NZX, Mr Phillips held a range of leadership positions at Citi, E*Trade, ANZ, and Westpac Broking covering operations, product, strategy, sales, and relationship management.

“Ben will be instrumental in our efforts to introduce an enhanced, new generation of block trading to Australian market participants through the launch of Cboe BIDS Australia and the Cboe tech migration,” said Cboe Australia CEO, Vic Jokovic.

Cboe Australia said that Mr Phillips will oversee client engagement as well as stakeholder and project management across both of the aforementioned projects in his new role.

His qualifications include a bachelor of business from Charles Sturt University and a diploma of securities and derivatives from FINSIA. He is also accredited under RG146 & ADA Level 1 Derivatives.

“I’m incredibly excited to contribute to Cboe Australia’s commitment to further enhancing the trading experience of Australian investors,” Mr Phillips said on his appointment.

Cboe Australia noted that it has experienced strong and sustained growth since launching as Chi-X Australia in 2011 with over 20 per cent market share, a daily record of $3.8 billion traded value in equity trading and up to 50 per cent of the Australian ETF market.
