AIA ramps up mental health focus

Life insurer AIA Australia and New Zealand has branched out further into the mental health space through a new corporate mental health program.

Through a partnership with mental health technology company Medibio, the pilot program will give AIA employees access to Medibio’s corporate health program for six months.

AIA said Medibio’s program promotes mental wellness by checking and monitoring symptoms of depression, anxiety and stress, and giving users a ‘wellness snapshot’ that they can track and make improvements to over time.

AIA Australia and New Zealand chief executive Damien Mu said that working with staff on the pilot resonated because, while awareness of the breadth and impact of mental health issues in Australia is increasing, people often do not reach out to their support network or employer until late in the process.

“We recognise the crucial role mental health plays in an individual’s overall health. We want to be involved in early intervention, education and awareness,” Mr Mu said.
