Andrew Hamilton succeeds Sharyn Long with new two-year mandate.

Cavendish Superannuation managing director Andrew Hamilton has been named the new chair of the Self-Managed Super Fund Professionals' Association of Australia (SPAA).

Hamilton has signed on for a two-year period and replaces outgoing chair Sharyn Long.

SPAA chief executive Andrea Slattery said Hamilton was uniquely qualified to chair the association, which is the industry body for self-managed superannuation fund (SMSF) professionals.

He had broad experience in all aspects of superannuation 'ranging from product design, software design and development, training programs, wide technical knowledge and understanding of compliance issues', Slattery said.

Commenting on his new role, Hamilton said: "As the peak association representing the fast-growing SMSF sector, SPAA is critical to the future structure of superannuation in Australia.

"As the self-managed sector is so fragmented, having a single major body representing trustees, advisers, accountants and auditors provides cohesive representations for all participants. I look forward to devoting time in my capacity as SPAA chair towards making this happen."

Hamilton founded Cavendish with fellow managing director Andrew Row and executive chairman John Row in 1993.

In the past two decades, Cavendish has grown to comprise self-managed superannuation, portfolio administration and actuarial services.
