NSW Premier Barry O'Farrell approached John Brogden regarding the Landcom role late last year.

Financial Services Council (FSC) chief John Brogden has said he remains committed to his executive position with the FSC despite his appointment as Landcom's new chairman.

"I'll continue devoting 110 per cent to the FSC and our members," Brogden told InvestorDaily.

"For the last two years I've been on the board of the Sydney Ports Association.  I've already been able to do the job whilst having an additional corporate responsibility."

"I'm also a patron of Lifeline in Australia so I've always undertaken a number of broader community roles in my professional business life, so it won't have any effect."

New South Wales Premier Barry O'Farrell approached Brogden in late December last year regarding the position with the NSW state government's property development division, Brogden said.

The role is a return of sorts for Brogden who held the position of shadow minister for planning from 1999 to 2002 before becoming the leader of the opposition.

"I know Landcom and I know the work that they do. It remains an area of some interest and from that perspective it was a serendipitous offer," he said.

"But I made it clear that whilst I would be [able] under law to continue on two government boards, I simply didn't have the time to do two state-owned corporations. So in consultation with my chairman at the FSC, Peter Maher, I agreed to take the chairmanship of Landcom and leave the Sydney Ports board."

Brogden said there will be no overlap between his duties with the FSC and Landcom.

"Thankfully they are quite separate organisations so it is highly unlikely that there will be any conflicts of interest," he said.

NSW Planning and Infrastructure Minister Brad Hazzard announced Brogden's appointment as chairman on Friday, following the retirement of long-serving chairman William Kirkby-Jones AM.
