Warne joins Macquarie Bank board

Authority figure brings more than 20 years' experience in banking and investment banking to board.

Industry heavyweight Peter Warne has been appointed as an independent non-executive director on the Macquarie Bank Board.

Macquarie Bank chairman David Clarke said the board would benefit from Warne's financial market expertise.

Warne has held a number of directorships, including with the Sydney Futures Exchange (SFE) from 1990-1999 and 2000-2006.

He joined the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) Board when the SFE merged with the ASX.

Warne's other board positions include Australian Leisure and Entertainment Property Group, Next Financial and WHK Group.

He will resign as independent non-executive director of Macquarie Capital Alliance Management and Macquarie Capital Alliance effective June 30.

The actuary spent the 18 years prior to 1999 with Bankers Trust Australia where he led the financial markets group for 11 years.

Warne consults to a number of financial market groups, including financial services companies.

The Macquarie Bank board now has 11 members, including seven independent non-executive directors.
