HSBC continues plans to beef up its brand presence in Australia, hiring a former ING Direct executive as its new marketing head.

HSBC Bank Australia has appointed Vic Wolff as its new head of marketing, following the bank's plans to continue ramping up its brand presence in the Australian market.

Formerly executive director of marketing at ING Direct Australia for the past four years, in his new role Wolff will be responsible for the HSBC brand, advertising, product marketing, market research, sponsorship, events, customer analytics and customer relationship management.

"Vic Wolff's appointment underscores HSBC's commitment to growing our presence in Australia," HSBC Bank Australia chief executive Paulo Maia said.

"In 2010, we significantly increased our investment in the HSBC brand and I'm delighted to have Vic on board as we continue to ramp up our brand presence in the Australian market and expand our marketing activity across all business lines."

Wolff brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having worked as marketing manager for ING Direct USA and ING Direct Netherlands over the past decade.

"Vic's knowledge and experience of both the local and global financial services marketing landscape as well as his expertise in working with global brands means he is perfectly suited to drive HSBC's marketing in Australia as we expand our local operations," Maia said.
