A new analyst has been added to the Macquarie fundamental research team.

Macquarie Funds Group has increased its Australian equities fundamental research team by one with the appointment of a new senior analyst.

Alex Chau has joined Macquarie, bringing with him a solid amount of experience in fundamental research including providing company research on both the buy and sell side for the past five years.

Chau takes up his new role after leaving Credit Suisse, where he covered the financial sector as a senior analyst.

"We have spent the previous 12 months on a very deliberate and thorough search for research analysts that not only had the appropriate skills and experience, but also best complemented the existing team," Macquarie Funds Group head of equities Patrick Hodgens said.

"The fundamental research team of 10 includes six senior analysts, all of which came to Macquarie with very strong experience in research on both the buy and sell side and applicable experience in the sector of their specialisation," he said.

"Coupled with the long-established quantitative research team that provide the initial quantitative stock screening, we believe the team is one of the best resourced investment teams in the Australian retail market."

Chau's appointment follows closely after those of Wim Steemers as a senior financial analyst and Liam Donohue as a research analyst.

The fundamental research team provides information for investment decisions in the core active, high conviction, small companies and microcap sectors.
