NAB has moved Malcolm Arnold across to its risk business division.

Malcolm Arnold has been promoted to National Australia Bank's (NAB) risk department.

The national manager for NAB's financial planning banking division will take on the new position of regional credit partner of risk business banking for New South Wales later this month.

"Effectively, I'm moving on to a role where I'm having a lot to do with internal focus on looking after staff that approve a lot of our loans," Arnold told InvestorDaily.

The move was not prompted by a new stringent push over compliance by NAB regarding lending, he said.

"I've been doing a lot of work in financial planning cash flow lending and that's something they saw as some opportunities to get me into the risk area," Arnold said.

"Even though I'm moving on to this risk role ... I'll still maintain some involvement in the planning market."

South Australian banking executive Shane Kirsch will replace Arnold in the business banking role.

"Shane will be responsible for running the NAB strategy in providing the banking services to the financial planning industry," Arnold said.

"He'll look after our 20 accredited bankers and he'll drive the strategy and the relationships with the dealer groups.

"South Australia has been one of our most successful states in the entire time that we've been running this specialisation, which puts Shane in a great position to now be carrying that forward to now running the national strategy."

Tony Jacka will take over Kirsch's role.
