MetLife names new CEO

MetLife appoints former Swinburne University Business Woman of the Year to run its Australian business.

Metlife Insurance has a new head of Australian operations starting today.

Tassin Barnard has been appointed chief executive, responsible for the US-based life insurer's Australian business.

Formerly, Axa general manager of Financial protection, Barnard replaces chief executive Neil Mason. Barnard has more than 25 years' industry experience including serving as managing director of Axa's affilate Australian Casualty & Life. She also held senior positions with AMP, Guardian, and Liberty Life. Barnard began her career as an underwriter before taking on management roles in business development, operations and product management.

Her new role will give her responsibility for Metlife's Australian operations including expanding the business in the market.

"We're pleased to find someone of Tassin's calibre to lead our Australian business," MetLife Asia chief operating officer Tracey Perkins said.

"Over the last two years, MetLife has built a strong business in Australia, and I am confident that Tassin will continue to meet our aggressive growth targets."

Barnard was named Swinburne University Business Woman of the Year in 2000 and is an active member of the Australian Business Network.
