Fixed income specialist Ardea Investment Management has teamed with the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) to start a research and mentoring partnership.

The Ardea and UTS program is aiming to form academic research to advance knowledge in finance. The fund manager will jointly research projects and author articles with UTS researchers as well as provide industry mentorship to the university’s students.

Ardea head of research and recently appointed UTS industry fellow Laura Ryan will lead the participation by the fund manager, with UTS Finance Discipline Group academics Kylie Anne-Richards and Gerhard Hambusch leading the university in the partnership.

Ardea and UTS are currently investigating learning for trade idea identification, climate change and government bond investing, and the LIBOR transition and how it may impact trading opportunities.

Ardea chief executive and co-founder Stephen Clout said he believes the partnership will strengthen the firm’s offering to clients and enhance its trade idea generation process.

The boutique fund manager reported the collaboration would boost its research capabilities.

“It is a key component of our strategic plan to prepare Ardea for a strong pipeline of long-term growth opportunities and ensure we maintain our highest standards of alpha generation,” Mr Clout said.

The firm manages more than $15 billion and is majority owned by employees, partly owned by investment manager Fidante Partners.
