David Evans has been named head of product and insurance at Aware Super.

His responsibilities will include leading the fund’s product and insurance strategy and the governance and management of its product offerings.

Prior to this, Evans was head of insurance at Aware Super for six years.

He brings extensive consulting and leadership experience in financial services to the newly created role, having previously worked at AMP for almost six years, most recently as a technical adviser and head of corporate insurance.

His remit included leading the offer development, business development, and client relationships across all major segments and channels of the group insurance market, spanning internal and external master trusts, industry funds, and the standalone corporate employer segment.

Evans’ résumé also includes five and a half years at NAB, where he was a general manager leading the MLC direct insurance and bancassurance teams.

Earlier this year, Aware announced an overhaul of its executive team that saw the introduction of an expanded chief operating officer (COO) role into its group executive and a closer integration of the fund’s financial advice services into its broader suite of financial education and guidance.

Former HESTA chief financial officer Sally Collins joined Aware Super in the expanded COO role.

All other changes as part of the executive restructure occurred internally, with incumbent COO Jo Brennan taking on the newly created role of group executive, member engagement and advice.

Meanwhile, current group executive, member growth Steve Travis retained his role with significantly expanded scope, taking on leadership of the acquisition, connect and grow, and retire teams; and chief of staff and group executive for Victoria Katrina McPhee was appointed to lead the newly created communications, public affairs, and advocacy team.
