An executive from NAB’s Asian business is set to take on more responsibility with the bank.

National Australia Bank (NAB) has announced the appointment of Krista Baetens as corporate and institutional banking (C&IB) executive, markets, subject to Visa approvals.

Before joining NAB in 2021 as an executive for Asia, Ms Baetens spent more than two decades at ING, most recently as head of wholesale banking, Asia-Pacific.

David Gall, group executive for C&IB, said that Ms Baetens brings more than 25 years of experience as a “global leader”, with an international track record running wholesale banking in Asia, Europe and the USA.

“For the past two years Krista has successfully led our Asia business, delivering outstanding leadership and strategic direction across the breadth of C&IB activities in the region,” Mr Gall said.

“Under her leadership, our Asia business has achieved strong financial and customer outcomes across the breadth of C&IB activities in Asia, including lending, transaction services, financial markets and debt capital markets.”

Mr Gall continued: “Krista’s deep international banking experience, global leadership capability, the strength of her risk management expertise and her proven strategic foresight, make her the ideal person for the role.”

According to the big four bank, the necessary Visa approval process is set to commence for Ms Baetens. In the meantime, John Bennett will continue as acting C&IB executive, markets.
