Cboe Australia has brought on a new head of software engineering from the Cboe FX New York office as it grows its technology team.

Rylan Uherek, who was previously the director of software engineering for Cboe FX in New York, where he led the Server Development team responsible for Cboe core FX’s low latency platform, has joined Cboe Australia.

The appointment will see Mr Uherek lead a growing APAC software engineering team as the exchange works to deliver the Cboe Tech migration.

“Rylan has done some great work for Cboe Global Markets over the past eight years and will be an incredible asset to the APAC team as Cboe continues to expand its presence in the region,” said Cboe Australia chief executive Vic Jokovic.

“Over the past 12 months, we’ve appointed more than 30 staff to our technology and operations teams in Sydney to support the market operations of both Cboe Australia and Cboe Japan.”

Prior to his role leading software engineering for Cboe FX, Mr Uherek was a software engineering manager for Cboe Global Markets, where he oversaw the server development team responsible for the Cboe FX platform’s matching engine, order entry, market data processes and improved the execution experience for customers trading large sizes by implementing continued enhancements to the Cboe FX Full Amount product.

Mr Uherek will report to Michael Aikins, Cboe Australia chief technology officer, APAC.

“The APAC Software Engineering team has undergone significant growth over the past six months as we integrate Cboe Global Markets’ leading technology platform in Australia, a process to which Rylan’s skill and expertise will be critical,” said Mr Aikins.

“We expect the team to continue to grow over the next 12 months, and Rylan’s appointment is an important milestone in that journey.”
