AXA IM Alts, a leading global alternative investment management firm with $279 billion of assets under management, have announced the appointment of Toby Coleman to the position of head of client group Australia.

Mr Coleman, who carries more than two decades of experience in business development and fundraising, will be responsible for raising new capital as well as client relationships across Australia and New Zealand. He will report directly to Florence Dard, global head of client group Alts, and will be based in Sydney.

His previous roles include a number of senior distribution positions in companies such as Goldman Sachs Asset Management, Perpetual Investments, and BNP Paribas Asset Management. Most recently, he held the role of head of investor relations at Folklore Ventures.

Mr Dard commented on the appointment stating that Mr Coleman brings “valuable experience” in investor relations and will support the firm in providing “exemplary service” to their existing clients, while also broadening the pool of investors under their advisory through his “strong track record” of building client relationships in both Australia and New Zealand.

Mr Coleman’s appointment is a reflection on the firm’s commitment to their growth ambitions in the market. This follows the previous decision made by AXA in the three senior internal appointments of Antoine Mesnage (following the departure of Kumar Kalyanakumar), Chris Willey and James Cox (replacing Quentin Shaw) to the roles of head of Australia, head of asset management and ESG, and head of fund management, respectively.

Furthermore, AXA also announced the launch of a new platform in June 2022, the AXA IM Investment Institute, with Chris Iggo appointed as chair.
