Former IBM, Suncorp and Telstra CIO Jeff Smith will join the bank’s board from August.

ANZ has announced that Jeff Smith will join its board as a non-executive director beginning on 1 August.

Mr Smith has served as chief information officer at a number of organisations including IBM, Suncorp and Telstra. He has been COO of Florida-based company World Fuel Services Corporation since 2017 and will be stepping down from the role at the end of this year.

“Jeff’s vast experience with technology and executive management will complement the board and I am confident he will provide valuable service to both the organisation and to ANZ’s shareholders as we continue through a period of significant transformation,” said ANZ chairman Paul O’Sullivan.

ANZ said that Mr Smith would stand for election as a director at its annual general meeting on 15 December. In the new role, Mr Smith will split his time between Australia and the US.
