The former head of Australian equities research at Mercer has joined Fidelity.

Fidelity International has announced the appointment of Mark Vrkic as director, institutional business, as part of the firm’s plan to expand into fixed income, direct property, private equity and other areas.

In his new role, Mr Vrkic is tasked with helping to manage institutional client and consultant relationships as well as growing Fidelity’s institutional business.

He joins Fidelity from Mercer, where he served as head of Australian equities research for the past three and a half years.

Mr Vrkic has over 20 years of experience and formerly held roles in the external equities team at Aware Super and as a portfolio manager at BT and Advance managing global equities and alternatives portfolios.

“Mark has extensive experience in fund manager research and multi-manager portfolio management and is a very well-regarded figure in the institutional industry,” said Fidelity head of institutional business Tim Connolly.

“We’re delighted to have him on board and believe he will be a very strong addition to the team.”

The role of director, institutional business, was vacated by Katie Constance, who previously announced her decision to relocate back to the United Kingdom and will remain with Fidelity in a new role in the firm’s sustainable team.

“We’re fortunate at Fidelity to have an extensive global network which enables our people to move internally and transfer to other countries and indeed teams,” said Fidelity MD Alva Devoy.

“Thankfully, this means we’re in the fortunate position to keep Katie in the family and we look forward to working with her in her new capacity within the Sustainable Team  something very dear to both our hearts.”
