Aviva Investors announces new real estate managing director

Aviva will bring in a new managing director of real estate in 2022.

The global asset management business has confirmed the appointment of Ben Sanderson who will start next January and direct the company’s real estate business.

Mr Sanderson, who has over 20 years’ experience in the UK, continental Europe and global real estate investment, will join Aviva from a 13-year stint at Federated Hermes, where he most recently worked as executive director, fund management.

He has also previously held roles at M&G Real Estate – where he served as fund manager for the global real estate securities fund – and is the current chair of the UK Investment Property Forum.

“We are delighted that we have been able to attract someone of Ben’s calibre to Aviva Investors,” real assets CIO Daniel McHugh said.

“Ben has demonstrable experience in leading teams and setting and executing business strategies, as well as strong pedigree in research and ESG.

“I look forward to working closely with him to further strengthen our direct real estate capabilities.”

Meanwhile, Aviva has also confirmed that James Stevens, who has led the real estate business on an interim basis since February, will take on the new role of head of real estate investment in January.
