The bank has announced the appointment of a financial services high-flyer with more than 24 years’ experience as its new consumer division chief executive.

Chris de Bruin joins Westpac from Deem, one of the largest non-bank financial institutions in the Middle East, where he is currently CEO. He previously worked at Standard Chartered Bank for 13 years in a number of senior roles across Asia and the Middle East, rising to the position of global head for retail products and digital banking.

He also has a strong background in fintech and digital banking, which will be particularly valuable as we work to enhance our digital capability and better meet customers’ changing needs.”

Mr de Bruin will commence in the role in early 2021 subject to regulatory approvals.
