A former prime ministerial adviser has joined AustralianSuper as its new head of public affairs.

“Accomplished policy and public affairs executive” Sarah Adams will take the role of group executive for strategy, brand and reputation.

Ms Adams has held senior executive roles in the government – including as a senior adviser to prime minister Kevin Rudd – and the private sector, including as executive director communications and stakeholder relations at Bushfire Recovery Victoria.

“As an experienced policy and public affairs professional with broad multisector experience I am looking forward to Sarah contributing to our mission of helping members achieve their best possible retirement outcome,” said AustralianSuper chief executive Ian Silk.

Ms Adams has previously practiced as a solicitor specialising in employment law, and served as general manager of corporate affairs for Coles Group and an industrial relations manager for Qantas.

“I’m very excited to be joining AustralianSuper and being a member of such a highly respected executive team,” Ms Adams. “I look forward to working on behalf of members of our nation’s leading superannuation fund in what [is] very important and challenging times.”
