Aberdeen Standard Investments has strengthened its distribution team with the appointment of a new institutional director.

Vishal Sharma will “build and broaden” Aberdeen Standard Investment’s (ASI) relationship with institutional investors in Australia and New Zealand, including superannuation funds and insurance companies. He reports jointly to Andrew Hendry, head of distribution for Asia Pacific, and Brett Jollie, managing director for Australia.

“We are very pleased to welcome Vishal to our business,” said Mr Jollie. “His appointment signals our commitment to investing in our business and growing our presence in Australia and New Zealand, as we continue to provide institutional investors with a broad spectrum of global investment capabilities and ESG-embedded solutions to help them navigate the challenging markets and invest for a better future.”

Mr Sharma has over 15 years’ institutional sales and relationship management experience in asset management and investment consulting in both Sydney and London. He joins ASI from bfinance, where he supported institutional investors through investment implementation. He has previously worked in institutional business and development roles with M&G Investments and Schroders.

“As an active investment manager, we have a vital role to play in the savings, retirement planning and financial ecosystem,” said Mr Hendry. “During these uncertain times investors are facing significant disruption, so deepening client engagements has never been more critical for us.

“Vishal’s strong experience and understanding of institutional investors’ needs will be integral to delivering the right solutions to address their investment challenges and supporting our growth ambition across the region.”
