The group has appointed an industry veteran with “vast experience” as its new head of professional standards.

Phil Creswell will join Count Financial as its new head of professional standards. He has sat on the FPA Professional Conduct Committee, been a member of the Financial Planning Advisory Committee to the board of the Financial Ombudsman Service, and governor and secretary of the institute of internal auditors.

Mr Creswell recently led a team of 17 compliance professionals with responsibility for 700 financial advisers at IOOF, and previously worked for KPMG and Price Waterhouse.

“Phil has been a passionate advocate for quality financial advice and brings a wealth of experience and technical skills, but importantly he has strong people skills,” said CountPlus CEO Matthew Rowe.

“He fits our family photograph. This is important as we build our team and our culture around our values as an organisation. Phil is someone that brings gravitas to this mission-critical role.”

Mr Rowe and Mr Creswell were involved in writing the FPA’s first code of ethics and professional standards, now exported globally through the Global Financial Planning Standards Board.

Mr Creswell has a bachelor of commerce and is a chartered accountant, as well as holding a diploma in financial services and certification with the Governance, Risk and Compliance Institute.
