AMP Capital has boosted its European asset management team with the appointment of a new investment director and head of airports for Europe.

Graeme Ferguson has taken the role, being set to assume responsibility for asset management of AMP Capital’s airport investments it the region comprising London Luton, Leeds Bradford and Newcastle airports.

The hire follows a successful fundraise for AMP Capital’s Global Infrastructure Fund II which closed in December at US$3.4 billion.

Based in London, Mr Ferguson will be held responsible for maximising value in AMP Capital’s airport investments, managing them to deliver sustainable operational performance and returns, identifying and managing key risks as well as looking out for acquisition opportunities.

He has joined the boards of Leeds Bradford and Newcastle airports.

Malcolm Brown, head of asset management, Europe, commented: “With his impressive background in the aviation sector, Graeme is a fantastic hire for the asset management team.”

“Sector expertise has become a key differentiator among infrastructure investment firms, with investors seeking an increasingly specialised approach, and in an infrastructure market where competition is high, active asset management’s value-add potential is essential. AMP Capital’s asset management team brings together leading operational expertise to complement our investment capability.

“Graeme has extensive experience across whole airport end-to-end evaluation, strategy, due diligence and business plan development, as well as negotiating commercial agreements with diverse stakeholders. His deep knowledge of the UK airport sector will help [us maximise] the value of our significant investments in this market.”

Mr Ferguson will report to Mr Brown in London. The global head of AMP Capital’s airports business remains Damian Stanley, an infrastructure equity partner based in Asia.
