Jefferies has appointed Jonathan Slone as chairman of Asia in a role that will be based out of Hong Kong.

Mr Slone will focus on the firm’s investment banking and trading relationships after spending three decades at CLSA where he was chairman and chief executive.

Jefferies’ CEO Rich Handler welcomed Mr Slone to the team and said he joined a number of significant new hires for the business.

“The significant hires in recent weeks across our firm’s Asian platform represent the next stage of growth and commitment to our firm’s continued global expansion. These new additions, combined with our strong existing team, will enable Jefferies to even better serve our global client base,” said Mr Handler.

Mr Slone said he was excited to join the full-service global investment banking firm and to strengthen its APAC reach.

“I am excited to be joining Jefferies at this time of considerable momentum in APAC as well as market share gains and strength in our equities business globally,” Mr Slone said.

Jefferies’ global head of equities Peter Forlenza welcomed Mr Slone to the team and looked forward to his meaningful impact.

“The hiring of Jonathan represents a significant step in our continued expansion of our Asia footprint, including meaningful additions to our teams in Japan and Hong Kong, as well the addition of equities research, sales and trading in Australia,” Mr Forlenza said.

Jefferies has made a number of other Asia hires including Christopher Wood who joined as global head of equity strategy and Desh Peramunetilleke as head of microstrategy product.
