The FSC has appointed two new directors to fill board vacancies at its annual general meeting in Sydney.

UBS Asset Management chief executive Bryce Doherty and Mercer Australia managing director Ben Walsh have been elected to replace outgoing directors Alexis George, deputy chief executive of ANZ, and Matthew Lawrance, chief executive of MLC Super.

Mr Doherty was appointed chief executive in 2013 and, prior to joining UBS in 2011, was the head of wholesale at BT Investment Management in Australia.

Mr Walsh has worked at Mercer Australia for more than 20 years in a variety of local and regional roles, and has worked internationally in the UK, US and India.

FSC chairman Geoff Lloyd welcomed Mr Doherty and Mr Walsh’s appointments.

“Both have had long careers in financial services and will add specialist knowledge and expertise as directors during this challenging period for the sector,” Mr Lloyd said.

“I would also like to thank Alexis and Matt for their time on the board and for being generous with their time and expert guidance during some particularly difficult decisions for the industry.”
