Baker McKenzie appoints special counsel

Baker McKenzie has announced the arrival of special counsel to their capital markets team in Sydney.

Melissa Carmody joins Baker McKenzie from Westpac where she served in the Global Derivative Reform Legal Team, focusing on variation margin and gross margin following the implementation of various global regulatory regimes relating to derivatives.

Ms Carmody said that she joined the team because of their reputation in the industry and for the work that she would do.

“Baker McKenzie’s market leading reputation was a significant draw card for me along with the quality of clients and matters,” she said.

Baker McKenzie partner Duncan McGrath said that Ms Carmody’s global experience would pay dividends for Baker McKenzie.

“Melissa is a fantastic addition to our team in bolstering our capacity to meet increasing client demand in both debt and equity capital markets,” he said.

Baker McKenzie head of corporate in Australia echoed Mr McGrath’s statements and said the expanding team would all provide expertise to the firm.

“Our clients have called for us to have deeper industry experience, and we have answered that call. We have built a team of people with hands-on financial institutions market practice,” he said.
