BlackRock appoints head of iShares Australia

BlackRock has appointed Christian Obrist as the new head of its Australian ETFs business.

Christian Obrist has been appointed as the head of iShares Australia effective 1 June 2018.

He replaced Jon Howie, who has been promoted to head of index strategy for Asia Pacific, based in Hong Kong.

Mr Obrist will relocate to Sydney for the role. He previously led private banking and asset and asset manager distribution, Asia ex Japan, based in Hong Kong.

He joined BlackRock in 2012 in Europe where he focused on individual clients covering pensions, insurances and asset managers.

Before his time at BlackRock, Mr Obrist held positions at JP Morgan and UBS.

BlackRock head of Australasia Dominik Rohe said: "Christian brings a wealth of experience covering client use of ETFs to Australia and will strengthen our capabilities in this important area for our business."
