Actuarial and consultancy firm Milliman has appointed a former Morningstar head of adviser solutions to the newly created position of director, adviser services.

In the new role, Andrew Whelan will drive development and management of national retail and wholesale partnerships, focusing on financial advisers and dealer groups, according to a statement.

Mr Whelan was most recently at adviser software provider CCUBE Integrated Wealth where he was general manager, sales and marketing.

Prior to that, he spent four and a half years at Morningstar as head of adviser solutions and head of deal desk. Before that, he was a consultant at Macquarie Group.

Milliman Australia principal Wade Matterson said the firm was “delighted to have secured Andrew” for the position.

“Andrew’s understanding of the financial advice landscape in Australia is unrivalled, and his vast experience and success in previous roles positions him perfectly to expand Milliman’s services,” Mr Matterson said.

Commenting on his own appointment, Mr Whelan added that he looked forward to working with the Mr Matterson and the Milliman team.

“Milliman is at the forefront of a number of the emerging trends shaping the financial advice industry, including the development and implementation of goals-based advice tools and frameworks, investment solutions to help manage sequencing and longevity risk, and detailed research on the behaviour of retirees,” he said.
