State Street Global Advisors has appointed a new senior portfolio manager to its Sydney-based active quantitative equities team.

Former Macquarie Bank portfolio manager Bruce Apted has over 20 years’ experience in portfolio management and has held roles at Westpac Investment Management, Bankers Trust, Macquarie Group, ABA Investments and Fidante.

Most recently, he was a chief investment officer and founder of investment management firm Noble St Capital.

SSGA head of active quantitative equities Asia-Pacific Tony Warburton said Mr Apted has “very strong credentials in active equities and quantitative investing”.

"Market conditions have made the role of active managers increasingly challenging in recent years as investors become more discerning in their allocations and want to see truly active management to justify active fees,” Mr Warburton said.

“His most recent work involved developing a benchmark unaware, global equity fund, so his skills are closely aligned to the goals we have for our Australian and global strategies.”
