Global institutional trading network Liquidnet has replaced former head of Australia Tristan Baldwin with Murrough O’Brien.

Murrough O’Brien makes the move from his previous position at TradingScreen where he was director and head of Australia and New Zealand, and brings 12 years’ experience in financial markets, according to a statement.

Prior to his time at TradingScreen, he was head of electronic trading for Citigroup Australia and New Zealand, and has held previous positions at JP Morgan, UBS, Nomura and HVB-Unicredit.

Liquidnet Asia-Pacific head Lee Porter spoke of Mr O’Brien’s experience in electronic trading and his leadership skills.

“Murrough’s high profile in the industry, extensive skill set on the vendor side and solid understanding of electronic trading and technology, makes him a potent force to lead our business in Australia,” he said.

Mr O’Brien will take the reins from Mr Baldwin, who has been relocated to Hong Kong following a promotion to Asia-Pacific regional head of sales.

“I’d like to thank Tristan for his hard work in Australia over the past three years and for his dedication and commitment to growing our business,” Mr Porter said.

“We wish him the best for his new regional role.”
