Former CBA executive Tim Rocks has been named for the role, with BT Financial Group chief investment officer Patrick Farrell noting that "we are delighted to have Tim join our team”.
“His background providing sell-side research will be instrumental for formulating our investment strategy and providing key research to our clients,” Mr Farrell said.
Mr Rocks will be responsible for structuring broader market research, managing the research team and being a key member of the BTIS investment leadership team, a BT-issued statement said.
“Tim’s appointment aligns perfectly with BT’s decision to create a centre of investment excellence to benefit clients,” said Mr Farrell.
Mr Rocks has held previous positions with Macquarie and the Reserve Bank of Australia.
